MTNA National Conference 2015 Las Vegas
|I was honored to be invited to present at the 2015 Music Teachers National Association Conference held at the Rio HotelĀ in Las Vegas. My presentation was titled “Combining Method Books – Accelerated Approach to Teaching Beginning and Intermediate Piano Students.”
To demonstrate my approach, I brought six talented students from my studio, and discussed various method books and supplementary materials I have used during their course of study. All of those six sudents started piano lessons with me from scratch, without any prior knowledge. They are:
Riley Neal (4 years old), Kristen Law (6 years old), Shania Jin (9 years old), Emma Erickson (9 years old), Kaitlyn Hetsko (10 years old), and Claire Howard (10 years old).
Each student performed a piece by a contemporary composer, which is a main focus in my studio.
The presentation was very well received. The room was packed, and by the time we started, there were people standing and sitting on the floor. Many people asked questions in the end, and many people requested my presentation slides.
I am very happy to share the slides, and have put them online for easy viewing and accesss. Here is the link to the slides:
I would like to thank all the students that travelled to Las Vegas to make my presentation so successful. Thank you to the parents for making the trip possible. Thank you to Benny Law for taking the pictures, which you can view on the Gallery page, and to Mary Hetsko for taking videos. And, thank you to all who attended my session! Please leave a comment below if you enjoyed my presentation and found it helpful. I would greatly appreciate your feedback!
I had the opportunity to attend your fabulous presentation and was very impressed! Your presentation further reinforced something similar that I had been trying recently in my own studio, so it was comforting to know that I am on the right track! It was also wonderful to see and hear students from a studio where an accelerated approach is standard, and see where they have come from and where they are heading! Thank you so much for your wonderful presentation! It was one of many highlights from the conference!
Thank you, Sarah!
