CAPMT Solo and Ensemble Auditions
|Congratulations to the following students who auditioned on Nov 10 for the California Association of Professional Music Teachers Solo and Ensemble Auditions. Everyone performed two contrasting solos from memory as well as a duet piece. I am very pleased to announce that everyone from our studio was awarded a rating of 5 (highest score) and will be invited to perform at the state conference next year. All of our students participated at high level categories:
Claire Howard (age 8) – category 6, performed Diabelli Sonatina in F, Waltz On Open Trail by George Kiorpes, and Rondo Alla Turca (four hand version arranged by Helen Marlais)
John Howard (age 13) – category 7, performed Kuhlau Sonatina in C, Chopin Waltz in A minor, and Faure Le Pas Espagnol from Dolly Suite
Catherine Howard (age 15) – category 9, performed Scarlatti Sonata in D minor, K 510, Beethoven Sonata Op. 10, No. 1, 1st movement, and Mozart Sonata for four hands in D major, 1st movement
Maggie Liu (age 9) – category 9, performed Beethoven Sonata Op. 13, Rondo, Chopin Waltz in B minor, and Mozart Sonata for four hands in D major, 1st movement
This audition is held every year. There are 9 categories, from beginners to advanced. This is the third year the studio has participated, and every year we have had a 100% rate of success! The ensemble aspect of this audition is what makes it unique – although not mandatory, students are encouraged to play with another student. This builds teamwork, aural skills, and gives students opportunities to learn four-hand repertoire.
