About
Welcome to my studio!
My name is Yiyi Ku and I am a pianist and teacher. I have been playing the piano since age 5 and started teaching professionally in 1995. I studied Piano Performance and Composition at University of Canterbury, New Zealand, and graduated with Master of Music with Distinction. In 2005 I moved from Christchurch, New Zealand to Long Island, New York, and received certification from Music Teachers National Association USA as a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music in Piano (NCTM). I am also affiliated with many professional music organisations, including National Guild of Piano Teachers, and Music Teachers National Association. You can read more about my qualifications and teaching experiences on this website.
Over the years I have maintained a busy studio and taught a large number of students, successfully entered numerous students for various auditions (including National Piano Guild), scholarships, competitions, and international examinations (ABRSM Royal Schools of Music). One of the highlights of my teaching career was when my student Maya Hasegawa, at age 6, was the youngest pianist selected to perform at Carnegie Hall for American Protege Festival 2009. I believe everyone can make music a part of their lives, and music is for everyone. In my private studio I have taught many highly talented students, and through my appointments at schools, I have taught a wide variety of students of different ages and levels. I have also taught a great number of adult students, both beginners and advanced. My teaching experience has made me a better musician and teacher, and I am constantly appreciative of the unique teacher-student relationships that I have built with all my students.
In September 2009, I moved to Murrieta California. I hope to meet many new students in my new city. If you would like to take piano lessons, please email me to schedule a trial lesson. I look forward to hearing from you!
