Music Teachers Association of California
Yiyi is now a member of the MTAC and its Temecula branch. This is the organization that administers the Certificate of Merit program that many students in California participate in. Typically after one year of study, students will be ready for this standardized audition. For a list of student opportunities that are available to students at Yiyi’s studio, please visit the Student Opportunities page.
California Association of Professional Music Teachers
Yiyi is attending the annual CAPMT conference held in Industry Hills next weekend from Feb 5-7. This is an important professional development event where music teachers in California meet and exchange ideas. There will be workshops, masterclasses, and lectures given by prominent musicians from all over the country. The CAPMT is a branch of the Music Teachers National Association.
New Student
Welcome to Catherine Howard, new student to the studio. Catherine is 12, and has been playing the piano for a few years.
Group Class
Starting in February, I would like to start a Group Class. This will be offered once a month, free to all students at the studio. We will have three classes: beginners, intermediates, and adults. During the group class, students can play to their peers, gain performance experience, and we will also cover topics such as Theory, Music History, Technique, Musicianship, and Aural skills. The times for the group classes in February are:
Friday Feb 26
Beginners: 4pm
Intermediates: 4:30pm
Adults: 5pm
I would like everyone to participate in these group classes. If you are not able to attend, please advise Yiyi.
